FOR ENGINEERS

Good engineers, real hardware.

We build Layer One around field engineers who know their way around a rack. Here's what we look for, and what working with us looks like.

Why work with us.

Real work, real sites

Datacenter jobs across 40+ cities, from a single ticket to a full migration. Hands-on, never busywork.

Rates agreed up front

We set your rate in the first call and confirm it before any work starts. Once agreed, you are paid on those terms.

Varied work

Remote hands one day, a rack & stack or a migration the next. Different sites, different challenges.

Join 100+ engineers

Come work alongside 100+ field engineers who hold the same standard. Same obsession: infrastructure done right.

What we look for.

Hands-on skill

You know your way around a rack: remote hands, cabling, rack & stack, migrations, decommissioning. The physical layer is home.

Flexible availability

Flexible beats full-time. Evenings, weekends and short-notice call-outs are where you stand out.

Clear communication

Responsive, clear English. You keep the customer in the loop and flag issues early.

Reliability

You show up, document the work, and leave the rack better than you found it.

How joining works.

Three steps from first hello to your first job. No long process, no ghosting.

01

Introduction

A short call to get to know each other. We tell you about Layer One, how we work and what we stand for, and we get a feel for your skills, availability and communication. We talk rates here too.

02

Assessment

We look at how you handle real datacenter situations, then confirm the working agreements together: your rate, your availability and the tools you bring. Straightforward, no trick questions.

03

Onboarding

We make it official: we walk you through the contract and our way of working, run a quick identity check (standard for datacenter access) and set up your portal account. From there, jobs come to you.

THE PORTAL

Your jobs, in one place.

Once you're onboarded, your work runs through our own portal. New jobs land there, and every step is documented as you go, down to the rack and slot. We built it in-house, shaped around how datacenter work actually happens, so your work is on record and speaks for itself.

Engineer questions.

Do I have to commit full-time?

No. You take the jobs that fit your skills and your availability. Flexibility is the point.

How are rates set?

We discuss your rate in the first call and confirm it before any work starts. Once it is agreed, you are paid on those terms. No surprises, no haggling after the fact.

What kind of work will I do?

Remote hands, rack & stack, migrations and decommissioning inside datacenters: hands-on work on the physical layer. From a single ticket to a full project. See what we do

Do I need my own tools?

The basics help: a label printer, console cable, cable tester and fiber meter. If a job needs more than that, we sort it out up front.

Why the identity check?

Datacenters are secure sites and our customers trust us with their hardware, so a quick identity verification during onboarding is standard. We keep only what we need and nothing more.

Where do you operate?

Worldwide, with the Netherlands as our home base and Nikhef as a cross-connect specialty. Most work clusters around the major datacenter hubs. See where we cover
